Individual Music Therapy Services

I offer Music Therapy assessment services for a wide range of individuals, performing a thorough assessment as well as gaining feedback from the client, responsible parties, and other treatment professionals as appropriate. When services provided through the schools aren’t meeting your needs, I have experience with the Special Education Music Therapy Assessment Process (SEMTAP).  A flat fee covers the assessment session as well as related paperwork and communication with the treatment team.  You will be provided with a proposed treatment plan and a summary of assessment results.  When possible, you will be provided with strategies to use outside of Music Therapy sessions.

Private music therapy services will be provided based on assessment results and agreement to the treatment plan.  Treatment plans are based on clients’ needs, strengths, and areas of improvement as identified in the assessment. Depending on the client’s needs, services may be provided several times a week to as seldom as once a month.  Sessions will range from one half hour to an hour.  Session frequency and length will be determined during treatment planning.  Sessions as short as 15 minutes may be considered for clients at a contracting facility where I will be on site for a set duration of time.

Interventions used during Music therapy sessions will vary depending on treatment goals and client preferences and cultural background.  Sessions will focus on building strengths, creating opportunities for self-actualization, increasing spiritual, mental and physical health as well as addressing areas of improvement.  Music used during the sessions may be live or pre-recorded (CDs, MP3s, etc.).  Examples of Music therapy interventions that may be used include therapeutic songwriting, social skills training, lyric analysis, music-supported movement, drumming, original songs or lyrics tailored toward the target behavior or skill, Academic and/or pre-academic skills training and support or instrumental playing.  Interventions will be consistent with best practices in music therapy as well as meet current standards of health, safety and infection control.

Services will be provided in the client’s natural environment. This allows for greater collaboration with the client’s treatment team as well as providing for better generalization of therapy goals to situations and skills outside of the therapy session.

At present, I do not provide services in Music Therapy Assisted Child Birth (MTACB) or neurologic rehabilitation.  Due to the needs of my family, I am also unavailable to see clients outside the immediate Lincoln, NE area.

Estimated preparation and documentation time has been figured into the rate allowing me to bill only for direct contact time with individuals.  Treatment plans and results are reviewed regularly to assure that the client is benefiting from services. The therapist will communicate progress towards goals and determine whether new goals or discontinuation of services is most appropriate.

Music therapy services are based on current research and best practices in the field.  Learn more about the field of music therapy by visiting the American Music Therapy Association at www.musictherapy.org
