Thinking about Self Care

What does self care mean to you? It’s something I’ve been thinking about a lot as a business owner, as a mother of teens and young adults with special needs, and as a music therapist. Sometimes it can be hard to recognize when our energy reserves are running low so feedback from family and peers can be important. Self care doesn’t need to be time consuming. It can be hard to take time for yourself when there are dishes in the sink, your business proposal was due yesterday, or there’s a gig tonight. However, even five minutes of reading a favorite book, taking a quick walk, or meditating can make a big difference. Don’t be afraid to seek out, or even demand, help. I recently came to a point where I was physically and emotionally drained. I sought help and have tried to be a little better about exercising regularly. There are still a number of ways that I could improve but I am making progress. In any journey, the most important thing is starting where you are. Let me know your self care struggles and triumphs!
