Finding Peace in the Midst of Chaos

Disclaimer: I am not a counselor but often use mindfulness techniques in my practice.

I regularly practice yoga and recently discovered the meaning of Dancer pose. It references the Hindu Deity Shiva in his aspect as Lord of the Dance. In a broader context, it is about finding peace in the midst of chaos and embracing change. So how do we do this?

  • Take five deep breaths

  • Anticipate change and make it work to your advantage

  • Change in temperature by splashing cold water on your face or putting your hands in cold water (not recommended for those with heart problems)

  • Exercise, especially cardio

  • Take a short walk outdoors

  • Listen to a favorite song

With the exception of trying to anticipate change, these are all short-term strategies. On-going stress can lead to other health issues. However, sometimes taking a short-term approach can help you get to a place where you can make bigger changes. How do you find peace in chaos?
